Summer is here and it is time to take the family off on holidays. Depending on what you want to do, this is still the time for families to bond together through travel and tour. More often than not, taking a road trip within your country is a great activity to do with everyone doing their bit.

Here are some things that the family can help out before taking that summer vacation:

- Plan with the family where you want to go. Have a family meeting a few months before the holiday season starts and brainstorm on what you all would want to do as a family. Especially if you have teenagers with you, get them involved with the preparation. That way you let them know that you value their opinion and input on this trip. Make it known to them that they will have responsibilities as well in this trip. If you have a son or daughter that does drive, plan to share the driving duties with them. If you have pre teens, then ask them what kind of vacation do they want to have? Do they want to go to the seaside or the mountains or do both? Doing this will also teach them how to negotiate and compromise. It is a good life lesson for them to learn when they are involved in the planning process.

- Make sure that the vehicle is road worthy. If you plan to go to a particular place, go online and search for auto repair shops and air con repair centres in that place or better yet, assign one of your children this task. Make sure that your child does write it down just in case something happens. More often than not, there may be a need to add HCFC gas to your compressor. HCFC is the environmentally gas that has replaced Freon, which is used to make the air conditioned cool. This can be done in an air con repair shop and should not be too expensive. Also check the tires to see if they are roadworthy for travel. If they are too worn, replace them right away. Check your odometer to see if you need to replace motor oil. A good rule of thumb is to replace motor oil every 5000 kilometres. Check to see if the level of brake fluid is enough for the journey. Also check if you need to replace the transmission fluid. If it has lost its viscosity, then there will be some difficulty in the gear shifting which you will notice, especially with automatic cars. Have the automatic transmission fluid changed. Lastly check to see if your car registration and insurance is up to date. Getting your vehicle prepared leads to a vacation less filled with car break downs.

What are the destinations and departure sites of the cruise? There can be the additional cost of flying or driving to the port where you will board the ship. What are the different activities and shows you can do and see on the cruise? Most cruises offer you many options to choose from. Some have a wider variety of activities, some have less. Make sure you know everything the cruise offers to its guests. You can easily discern this by evaluating your options. Who are you going on the cruise with? Some cruises have special themes, but others have no special designation. A cruise that is centered around adults may be better for you if you don’t have kids. If you’re single, you might even want to consider a singles cruise. What are the ports of destination? Oftentimes, cruises stop at various ports so you can enjoy off ship activities. Perhaps you’d like to take advantage of the opportunity to go sight seeing? Or else, you might find the best place for observing whales. Besides enjoying the scenery, you can do things like water skiing, biking, and even rock climbing.

As soon as you discover the best cruise for you, its usually possible to use the Internet to book it. There are lots of choices, but bear in mind that many of the best cruises are fully booked long before the departure date. Look for a cruise that has activities that interest you, but don’t spend too much time making up your mind!

When I was growing up, my parents took an annual two-week camping trip that took us to many places in the U.S. and Canada. They’d pack the car with all the equipment, clothes, and food for them and their brood of five kids. Eventually the family grew to seven (plus the occasional friend who came along). As you can imagine, there were plenty of adventures and memories to fill a book! In fact, on many occasions Mom would say, “Someday I’m going to write a book about these trips!” For some reason, the book never made it to paper. While the list is long for several reasons (for starters, seven kids!), my guess is it was because she was never completely clear about what form the writing would take. Would it be a travel guide, a comedy, or a how-to or how-not-to book? Could it be all of those? Erma Bombeck was a popular writer during those times. Could my Mom stand up to that example of using real-life stories to humor readers? Oh, the pressure. And so, the book remained in her mind and unwritten.

The writing process is different for everyone, but sometimes the potential writer never starts because they don’t know where to start or where to take the subject if they do have a start. Sometimes, they feel like they’re standing at a crossroads, with signs pointed in dozens of directions with varying distances for each one. They are frozen with indecision about what step they should take first. If indecision isn’t the problem, fear rears its ugly head and stops the writing dead in its tracks.

Travel destinations can be preserved on your video collection forever, but having the proper gear at the right location is essential. A friend of mine went to Acapulco Mexico with his new camera and lens, he was there only a week but that was long enough for fungi to appear on the lens, witch was ruined. If he had known the climate was so humid he would of taken a hermetic cap to preserve his valuable instrument. Climates like these can rot the steel foundations of a building in a few years so imagine what it does to your delicate high precision equipment.

Travel destinations might present different challenges, from busses that jump uncontrollably to helicopters who offer great views of the land bellow but ruin any sound you want to capture. Prepare well and you will be able to enjoy your vacations all over once you have made the video and view it again. Choose the gear you need well, as the needs are different for every travel destination video.
